Fundraising

Friends of BDNH

Friends of BDNH is the fundraising arm of our organisation. Our group meets monthly and we enjoy some hospitality and refreshments as part of our meetings. Chairman, Brian Whykes, was recently elected for a second term and Peter Morey was re-elected as Deputy Chairman. Barbara Hughes is Secretary. This year we ran several successful activities to raise money for our building fund:

Art Auction
This was a very successful and enjoyable event - we raised $1,500. We would like to thank the many very talented local artists who kindly donated artwork to support this event (including retired BDNH Nurse, Valery Farrington).

Charity theatre nights
Barchester, Ballarat National Theatre - we raised $360
Singin' in the Rain, BLOC Music Theatre - we raised $1,805
Grease, BLOC Music Theatre - we raised $1,805

Trots night
Our fourth trots night was another successful event - we raised $2,360. We would like to thank the Ballarat District Trotting Club for hosting this event, the Oasis Club of Creswick who partnered us in organising it and the many Ballarat businesses that generously donated raffle prizes.

Footsteps to Fitness
We continue to set and meet new challenges with our Footsteps to Fitness program. This year we celebrated several outstanding and inspiring results and every participant has enjoyed significant improvements to their wellbeing as a result of the exercise.

Walk Around Australia Challenge
(a distance of 15,000 km per individual) Brian Whykes, Barrett Family, Glen, Wendy Danielle and Tamara Awith, and Peter and Glenis Morey completed the challenge over a period of three years. Several others were close to completing their individual challenge at the time of this report.

Virtual 200,000 km Walk Team Challenge
(a virtual walk is when you walk the distance without leaving home). Our Virtual Walking Team successfully completed this remarkable distance and is continuing to set new challenges - the next is to walk the length of the Equator (more than 40,000km).

Corporate Support
BDNH is grateful for the ongoing support it receives from Ryan's IGA - this year we received a total donation of $1,934.72. We are currently looking at ways we can enhance our relationships with other local businesses, in particular with a focus on our centenary celebrations leading in to 2011.
